The Bird's Nest

For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a restaurant menu with a limited number of colors and typefaces and no effects, graphics, or illustrations. Through the brainstorming process, I realized I wanted my healthy menu to resemble a chalkboard with a black background and bright type. After coming up with the name, “The Bird’s Nest,” I began choosing colors that would portray a health-minded establishment. I landed on green and orange, which are the colors of many beautiful fruits and vegetables that would be served here. The vibrant green is used for the name, food categories, and lines that border the information; and the earthy orange is used for secondary information like the restaurant motto, menu choices, and prices. I used white type for all of the menu descriptions to balance the other bright colors. I contrasted a tall, serif font with a squat, sans serif font and used these two typefaces for all of the information. I really love the contrast of sophistication with playfulness, and I believe that is what is achieved here.
